We are proud to announce that one of the twelve winners of the 2018 Outstanding Women in Business Award is our very own Founder and President, Holly Markham.
According to the Family Business Association’s website, this is what they look for in candidates:
The Outstanding Women of Family Business Awards showcase the brave, talented, and dedicated entrepreneurial women playing a substantial role in family businesses across the region. They give tirelessly to their company while also finding the time to help the community around them through charity and philanthropy. And did we mention that many of them are bringing up families of their own?
Holly discovered her passion for European design while traveling through Germany and Scandinavia in the 1990s. These early influences inspired her to start what is now a thriving business manufacturing modern luxury fireplaces as well as distributing innovative European fireplace designs throughout the United States and Canada.
Holly runs European Home alongside her husband John. Together they have also raised two intelligent and thoughtful teenage boys. When she isn’t running the boys to fencing or cello practice she is active in the local CEO development organization, learning from and mentoring other small business owners in the community.
Holly is also very passionate about the environment as she is a regular volunteer for her local Recycle Committee in Melrose, MA. She will soon be debuting a blog dedicated to local environmental issues.
European Home is more than just a fireplace business. It is a space where employees are encouraged to design and innovate even if their job title doesn’t include the words: “product development.” It is a commitment to making the environmentally correct decision, even if it’s not always the financially savvy one. Finally, it is a family-run business that cares for and invests in its people. Holly is a strong and caring leader whose dedication and passion for modern design shines through in every product we offer. She is a phenomenal boss, parent, community member, and most definitely one outstanding woman.
