Suspended or ‘floating fireplaces’ have a very interesting origin story. In 1967, during a chilly evening in the south of France, Dominique Imbert was restoring a ruined farmhouse in Viols-le-Fort. Driven by necessity and passion, the former humanities professor forged his first fireplace using salvaged metal scraps. But, what set this fireplace apart was its innovative design: it hung from the ceiling. With a revolutionary concept at the time, Imbert would go on to found his company called Focus Fires, and today, his iconic designs are celebrated worldwide.
